Ogham Tuesday: Rowan

The second letter of the ogham alphabet is Rowan. There are lots of correspondences in play: the color red (from the berries), the tree’s role in the ecosystem (the berries are food for wildlife and the wood is useful as well), and its appearance in myth.

In general, it shows up as a shield from unseen or magical sources. Though I seldom receive much clarification about what form the protection has taken and what the threat is, over time I’ve come to appreciate that they’re both REAL and concurrent.

What I find most comforting about Rowan is how it proves that the world isn’t always 100% out to get me. Today, this ogham is a reminder of forces conspiring to PROTECT me. And that’s a beautiful thing. Today, I hope that any news of ill you might receive is always accompanied by news of comfort and grace.

The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
