Overall Theme: Aspen, for courage. Naturally, we can only truly tap into courage when we’re afraid – trembling, even, like the silver leaves of aspen in the breeze. There’s a lot happening around us these days, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t ever afraid, especially when I contemplate taking direct action against injustice. Aspen is here to remind us that, when we drop the false protection of our proximity to white supremacy, our courage becomes a shield against the very fears that used to hold us back.
Potential & Allies: Oak, for steadiness. As entrenched as fascism may be in the fabric of our nation, so too are the roots of resistance. That sounded very hoity-toity, but truly: resistance has also existed since the beginning of these struggles. And, though we as individuals don’t always know what to do, I promise the history and knowledge are there. Lean on Oak as a strong foundation and use the tools proven to work.
Static & Obstacles: Gooseberry, for the Kindred and possibly also whimsy. That’s not to say that mocking the actions of power or deflating fear with inflatable frog costumes have no value. However, given the position of Oak as an ally, I think Gooseberry in this position might be a caution against silliness as a primary strategy. Again, use it as a tool, but keep yourself grounded in the real. Understand how and WHY we use it, and how powerful it can be. Likewise, the Kindred are powerful allies, but we have to lead the way? Don’t be counting on nature spirits or otherkin to be doing the work, you know?
Letting Go: Wave, for changing shapes. Mutability and resilience are great, but I think this message is more about being wishy-washy. This is the time to hold firmly to what matters most. Our tactics will certainly change from one situation to another, but the foundational values need to be held steady. Some things need NOT to change.
Helping Grow: Ivy, for tenacity. Use Ivy to bind yourself to what propels you and to what protects the communities that need us.
This got a bit more current events than I expected, but working with Andraste (as I do, when I pull omens for service) tends to keep one focused on the essentials rather than the esoteric. However you are confronting the challenges of the day, I hope you have relationships that keep you feeling steady and supported.
What else do you see in this reading Please let me know, and feel free to share with any friends you think might get something out of it too.
Bright blessings,
Nicole
