March New Moon: Deepest Knowing

Hello, all – Something I noticed about this reading that I want to mention up front is that three of these are from the same aicme – positions two, three, and four of the last standard set. They all lead up to Yew, which is the gateway to our next megacycle. I’m not much of an astrologer, but it also looks like a bunch of planetary cycles are primed to end (one way or another).

Much of this reading is a call to deep knowledge of ourselves and our needs, while detaching from things we may cling to out of a false sense of comfort. Let’s get into it.

  1. Overall Theme: Hazel, for enlightenment. This ogham isn’t about inspiration landing on our heads from elsewhere; it’s asking us to dive into our deepest knowledge. Hazel is a call to meditate upon and treasure the innermost pearl of our SELF, which is probably a great reminder even if we weren’t bombarded with all this all the time. I don’t see Hazel as insisting that we know everything all the time…just to have a consistent touchstone in our own heartbeat.

  2. Potential & Allies: Honeysuckle, for gathering what’s most needed. Spring is revving its engines. The season of growth is coming, no matter how much we might want to hibernate a little longer. Whether that inevitability feels ominous or encouraging for you, it’s definitely time to prepare. Honeysuckle takes over because it leafs out earlier than just about anything else in the landscape. In a sense, this is an ogham that urges you to fill your own cup first. Tempered by the enlightenment of Hazel, Honeysuckle doesn’t have to do damage, but nobody else is going to do this work for you (and it’s dangerous to give that responsibility over anyway).

  3. Static & Obstacles: Heather, for harmony and affection. I needed a minute with this one, and then I remembered the advice to “kill your darlings.” In writing, it’s about editing elements you might really like (witty banter, side quests, even characters) if they don’t serve the story. The obstacle Heather represents, I think, is comfort and familiarity. Or maybe the supposition that, just because we enjoy something or feel good about it, it’s right and correct and good.

  4. Letting Go: Gorse, for attachment. Yes, this can be a sexy ogham. I don’t see Gorse in this position as a call to abstinence; rather, it’s a caution against obsession without logic. Maybe it’s a reminder that over-functioning is self-harm, even when (especially when) we feel deeply about something.

  5. Helping Grow: Aspen, for courage. This ogham has been in the first position (Overall Theme) for the past two months, and here it is in the position for growth. I also had Aspen show up in a daily reading just a couple of days ago. Here, I think it’s a reminder that fear is simply the seed of courage, and we have all we need already in hand.

Much like last month, though, in the same moment things are falling apart, people are coming together to support each other. Hold onto your own deepest knowledge of self and what you need in order to thrive in the coming months. May we all be equal to our challenges.

What else do you see in this reading Please let me know, and feel free to share with any friends you think might get something out of it too.

Bright blessings,

Nicole
