Ogham Tuesday: Spindle

Spindle carries meaning for practitioners who see the work as part of prayer, who see the value of orthopraxy (how we take ACTION with our faith) laid onto the usual orthodoxy. In interfaith terms, it reminds me of the “Weave and Spin” chant I learned long ago, which I think originated with Starhawk and the Reclaiming tradition. Here’s an excerpt:

Weave and spin, weave and spin

This is how the work begins

Mend and heal, mend and heal

Take a dream, and make it real

Spindle came up in a reading for me today – it signals work done within a community, with help and for service to others, as part of a larger process.

Questions you might ask when Spindle shows up include: What tools do I have on hand that can make this simpler? Think of accommodations as tools too!  Where am I under-valuing the contributions I can offer? In survival situations, knowing how to keep everyone in warm clothing can be critical. How can I frame this effort as part of a larger community movement? Be aware of those whose work sets up your own, and how your work is passed to the next stage (or generation).

However you engage with your day, may you find ways to be joyful in the practice.

The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
