New Moon Divination: April 8, 2024

Hello, and welcome to your new moon divination for April!

Let’s start with the obvious: on top of the new moon, we’ve got a solar eclipse AND Mercury Retrograde, AND AND AND. The conjunction of these events feels significant. Specifically, I think it’s cool that, even though we can’t see the moon in the sky at this time of the month, it’s still going to block the sun. I invite you to supply your own metaphor for that.

Since I am not familiar enough with astrology to expound any further, my divination focuses very much on new moon insights from the ogham. (If planetary movements are your jam, I hope you have resources that suit you.)

  1. Overall Theme: Apple, for choices, and signaling a time for repairing damage and making things right. In Celtic myth, the “golden apples of the sun” confer long life, bliss, and contentment. It’ll be months from now before apple trees bear fruit, but my little crabapple tree is blooming right now! Making sure the tree receives the blessings of water, careful shaping for air flow, and cross-pollination from different species of apple trees nearby will make a difference to our harvest.

  2. Potential & Allies: Yew, for patience. This tree has appeared in different positions over the last few months. Here, I think knowing when to be still and not rushing the process are the blessings. Letting something take as long as it takes will create a longer-lasting outcome. This lines up with Apple as an overall theme, since flowering to harvest is an annual cycle and not a lunar one. Could be that our message is referencing a longer cycle as well.

  3. Static & Obstacles: Spindle, for working within the home. I had to think about this one for a while, but I know I sometimes get stuck in making sure household chores are done before I’ll tackle a larger project. By the time I get to something that isn’t a chore, I am worn down and resentful and short on inspiration. Kind of a rotten pattern that’s arguably my own fault at least some of the time. Try to be aware of moments when repetitive care tasks are taking center stage and draining your energy.

  4. Letting Go: Broom, again referencing work around the home. I wonder how much you, like I do, let busy work stand in for meaningful steps toward goals. There are definitely times, like Spindle warns against, when I rearrange a closet instead of making an important phone call. But here, I think Broom is reminding us that researching is not the same thing as doing. Watching a video is not the same as trying a thing ourselves. Arranging our sticky notes and colored pens might help us SEE the priorities better, but it isn’t the same as DOING the things, even in the tiniest steps.

  5. Helping Grow: Hazel, which speaks to deep intuition and profound insight. Gaining wisdom takes time and effort, and Hazel may well call you to engage as an apprentice or with a beginner’s mind in your endeavors. But engage with joy! Hazel is referred to in myth as “friend of cracking” because the Druids and bards of myth often revealed the inner kernel of wisdom through puns, riddles, and laughter. Fall in love with the process and enjoy every step.

Brightest blessings,

Nicole

P.S. Do you like the timing of these divinations with the New Moon, or is there a time of month (or year) that feels more significant to you personally? Would you like, for example, a birthday reading? Or a half-birthday reading? Please let me know how I can serve you better!
