Ogham Tuesday: Ash

Ash is the final ogham in our first set of five! In this position, like the highest cards in a suit would be in tarot, we’re looking for the moment that transitions from one cycle to another or that creates a bridge from one part of our journey to the next. Ash carries ancient knowledge and its towering height, matched with its long roots, it’s often associated with the World Tree. So one branch leads to another, and each foothold brings you further along the path of the trunk. Whatever journey you’re on, Ash represents the next step and a need to tap into your inner guidance to tell the ordinary from the significant (or the dead-end path from the advancing one).
The Celts also made oars, axe handles, and especially spears from the strong and pliable wood, but Ash’s meaning isn’t usually so literal. When you pull Ash, look at the spear as a symbol of your will rather than a simple weapon. How are you going to cast your intention forward and deal with your current situation on a personal level? As a “check on peace,” Ash calls us out of inertia and into action and influence.
The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
