Ogham Tuesday: Gooseberry

Quick vocab note: When we say a particular ogham few is “unattested” or “less attested,” that means we’ve not found a lot of evidence in myth or lore about it.

GOOSEBERRY is one of those. I happen to love this one, and it’s turned up in readings often enough for me personally over the last 30-odd years that I feel comfortable assigning meaning. If you’re an ogham scholar, this might not be the interpretation for you. :)

For me, Gooseberry is a delightful surprise. It asks, why so serious? It’s the giggle that can’t be suppressed, the pun or “dad joke” that gets a groan but lightens the mood. With Gooseberry in my hand, I’m called up on not only to engage and focus on a situation, but also to do so with joy and sharpness of wit and burst of optimism.

Whatever your day holds, I hope you have some pleasant surprises ahead!

The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
