Aside from being the name of some of my favorite people, Heather is an omen of comfort and care and community. Yes, it is a symbol of deeply passionate, romantic love. But it’s also a symbol of loving kindness and thinking well of others.
And though I’ve not been able to grow Heather successfully, at any of my homes over the years, I’ve learned to turn the lessons of this ogham into some gentle tips for healthy relationships. Strong and long-lasting partnerships are built on rich metaphorical soil, with the right balance of rain and sunlight, at temperatures that neither scorch nor freeze.
Heather is a call to harmony in all our partnerships, romantic or otherwise. How do we invest in common goals? How do we balance the needs of all against the needs of the few? How do we celebrate gifts and successes that aren’t our own? Is the impact of our action in harmony with our intent? How do we create an environment where our loves can take shelter and rest a while?
May we all be well, together.
The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
