Ogham Tuesday: Honeysuckle

I find so much wisdom and hope in this ogham, it’s tattooed on the inside of my wrist, so it’s always there even if I didn’t pull it for an omen. I am also taking extreme measures to eradicate invasive honeysuckle in my yard. Sunrise, sunset. I guess.
It’s easy to see why this plant gained popularity when it first came to the US. Honeysuckle leafs out very early in the season and stays green longer than many other shrubs in my zone. It’s got strong “first in, last out” energy and when I tell you it THRIVES. Lordy. This plant is a reminder that ease is relative, and that even the hardiest stuff needs maintenance or it’ll take over everything else.
Gathering sweetness to oneself has so much value – in terms of treating yourself, not pouring from an empty cup, and other metaphors. But the whirling and twirling have such immense power to grant ecstasy and to keep ill-wishes from latching onto us. Sweetness isn’t softness. I believe that wrapping yourself in what’s good for you (not too much!) is just as protective as if you went on the offense.
I hope that you’re comfortable in the embrace of sweetness today, and that you find creative ways to thrive in your own environment.
The Ogham Tuesday series started in 2023 and focused first on introducing each of the standard ogham alphabet in order. We're moving those posts to the blog now, so they can be more easily searched.
